All the fresh produce is grown using ecologically supportive practices, including certified organics. Simply Good Food aims to balance offering its members a good variety of fresh, healthy foods with the principle of minimising ‘food miles.’
Fruit and vegetables are sourced directly from growers in the Wairarapa & Hawkes Bay.
Simply Good Food is primarily fresh fruit & vegetables with a focus on local production, heritage varieties and nutrition. Simply Good Food makes it possible for everyone to eat tasty, nutritious food.
Food Quality and Cost
Globally and in New Zealand, our food supply has become heavily corporatised, industrialised and monopolised. Small farmers who are dedicated to ecologically sustainable farming cannot survive in this environment. The ability to source good, nutritious, locally produced food is becoming increasingly difficult.
Much of the food, that is easily accessible, lacks nutrition and nourishment.
Seen as the luxury end of the food market, organic food accessed through supermarkets and organic retailers is limited and expensive. For many people nutritious organic food is unaffordable.
Lost skills
We can all learn to grow our own vegetables yet many people do not have the desire, the space or the time to devote to ensuring healthy crops. To grow enough fruit and vegetables to feed a family takes time and skill. Climate extremes mean Wellington is a challenging environment for growing a sustainable fruit and vegetable garden.
